#3: Shelter in Place
Remember when the COVID-19 pandemic first started in the Spring of 2020 and it was all pretty crazy and sort of charming and unusual to be stuck at home together, and since the world didn’t know how to do everything remotely, life slowed down and there were all these extra hours to take walks and enjoy life and make music videos? Yeah me neither, really, and yet here is some evidence that such a phenomenon actually may have occurred.
#2: This is My Crew
Honestly probably my favorite of my own non-extensive daddy rap canon. Perfectly captures a certain moment in time, living in San Francisco, with young daughters, a happy memory to look back on. This was when I realized that these might later become precious yearbook pieces for my family to mark moments in time as life evolved. Not for nothing, looking back I think everything in this video was pretty much true.
#1: Daddy Skills
The original. A 2012 collaboration with my friend David “DJDave” Wittman, who had recently had a smash viral hit with “Whole Foods Parking Lot”. Daddy Skills caught a little bit of fire itself in those early days of viral internet videos, when it was still somehow noteworthy that a couple guys would be rapping about being a dad. Picked up by media and blogs all over the place including the Today Show, that was fun and a little weird. As was appearing on The Globe and Mail’s “10 Coolest Dads on the Internet” list, that was a kick. My personal favorite media coverage was this interview in my hometown news site. Also this tweet from Ayesha Curry dedicating the video to Stephen Curry.
